What We Do

We Go Where They Need Us

Our Site Coordinators work with volunteers, partners, and the local community to provide students with the resources they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Communities In Schools® is cost-effective – for less than $200 annually per student, we are able to provide a comprehensive range of community services.

The 5 Basics

1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.

Many young people lack traditional family or community support, so it’s up to the community to make sure someone cares about them. Communities In Schools connects students with mentors and caring adults who offer encouragement, academic support, and serve as positive role models.

2. A safe place to learn and Grow

Some children live in unsafe neighborhoods and attend schools that don’t feel secure. Communities In Schools provides safe, supportive environments through afterschool programs and alternative learning models so students can reach their potential.

3. A healthy start and a healthy future

Children can’t focus in school if they are hungry, cold, sick, or in need of care. Communities In Schools connects families with essential services like health care, food programs, vision and dental exams, mental health support, and more.

4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation

Today’s students need strong academics, technology skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to succeed. Communities In Schools offers tutoring, career planning, job training, leadership development, and college readiness programs.

5. A chance to give back to peers and community

Giving back helps young people feel valued and part of their community. Communities In Schools creates opportunities for students to serve others through tutoring, volunteering, community projects, and mentoring younger children.

Integrated Services

Troubled students and their families often have a hard time accessing and navigating through the maze of public and private services. Through a school-based coordinator, Communities In Schools® brings local resources inside the public school setting, where they are accessible, coordinated, and accountable.
